Officers from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department say they observed a vehicle commit a series of traffic violations on Route 202 in the Town of Southeast on Saturday, May 4 around 1 p.m.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and determined that the driver, identified as 56-year-old Deborah Kern, had a suspended license in the state of New York, according to police.

When attempting to place Kern under arrest, police say she failed to obey commands and acted resistant.

Kern was eventually taken successfully into custody and was transported to the Putnam County Correctional Facility for processing.

Kern was charged with the following:

  • Third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor
  • Resisting arrest, a Class A misdemeanor
  • Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration, a Class A misdemeanor

Kern was arraigned in the Town of Southeast Justice Court and released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to return to court at a future date.
